About The Position

The Settlement Accountant will assist the Settlement Team by handling critical accounting functions which supports ultimately client payments.

Requirements

  • 1 or more years of full cycle accounting or settlement experience
  • Proficient computer skills with MS Office, accounting software and databases.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Attention to detail
  • Review entries made by others and able to accurately record large volume of transactions.
  • Time management
  • Able to prioritize tasks which can create process bottlenecks, help attorneys and clients, and handle daily essential tasks like depositing incoming checks while finding time to work on side projects or help when it is needed more to complete other colleague’s high priority tasks.
  • Communication/Team player
  • Communicate clearly and explain decisions.
  • Research team questions and update with findings.
  • Offer to help when caught up and know when to ask for help when behind.
  • Problem solving
  • Able to find solutions to existing and emergent problems that work with the team. Management reporting questions, reconciliation issues, or making time consuming tasks more efficient/accurate are some examples.
  • Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • SharePoint & OneDrive.
  • Adobe Acrobat.

Nice To Haves

  • Law firm experience preferred, but not required
  • Experience with Sage Intacct a plus
  • Neos (Needles) experience preferred not required
  • DocuWare imaging system experience preferred not required
  • DOMO experience preferred not required
  • ERP Sage experience preferred not required

Responsibilities

  • Make bank deposits daily for multiple entities and record related ACH activity.
  • Process check deposit request forms
  • Create client-facing settlement summaries & settlement packages for attorneys.
  • Review client-facing settlement summaries for accuracy and consistency.
  • Reconcile settlement related account activity.
  • Assist with entering settlement accruals
  • Process IOLTA Disbursement request forms
  • Generate data from accounting system for reports.
  • Make electronic deposits via banking web portal
  • Serve as a backup for settlement Accounting Clerk
  • Respond and resolve requests in the shared email inbox
  • Special projects as needed
