About The Position

Entry Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in an experimental lab, or wet lab, and handle a variety of chemicals and/or potential “wet” hazards. Entry Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in laboratories where chemicals, drugs, or other materials or biological matters are tested and analyzed. The candidate will work very closely with Dr. Forester, research services professional(s), postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and clinical fellows within the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
  • Must be willing and able to pass national criminal and sex offender background checks
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Ability to maintain a laboratory notebook
  • Able to take the initiative to address research issues
  • An ability to clearly demonstrate a passion for scientific research and must exhibit a strong commitment to perform scientific research with a desire to pursue an advanced MD, Ph.D., or combined degree in the biological sciences
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to work independently

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab
  • Previous professional laboratory experience in immunology, stem cell, or cancer biology
  • Experience with CRISPR, transfection, and transduction
  • Previous independent laboratory experience outside of required courses is preferred
  • FACS experience
  • Experience in computational analysis and RNA biology is highly preferred
  • Experience with Illumina DNA sequencing analysis would greatly accelerate this line of research
  • Previous experience in presenting or publishing biology research, even if not on the author list
  • Experience with pipetting and aseptic tissue culture

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions.
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results.
  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical test processes and evaluate the results produced.
  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas.
  • Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary.
