About The Position

The System Retail Pharmacy Operations Director is responsible for the daily operational performance, standardization, and optimization of hospital-owned retail pharmacies across the health system. This leader will oversee workflows, regulatory compliance, staff performance, customer experience, and strategic growth initiatives. The role is pivotal in ensuring retail pharmacies operate efficiently, meet financial and quality benchmarks, and contribute to the overall mission of improving access and continuity of care.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (BPharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
7 years of retail pharmacy experience, with at least 3 years in a multi-site management or operations role
3 years of experience in health system or hospital-owned retail pharmacy

Nice To Haves

Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), Health Administration (MHA), or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of pharmacy regulations, third-party billing, 340B, and retail pharmacy KPIs.

Responsibilities

Oversee daily operations of all system-owned retail pharmacies to ensure consistency, efficiency, and high-quality service.
Implement and monitor standardized workflows, inventory practices, and staffing models across sites.
Lead initiatives to improve prescription capture rates, patient satisfaction, and turnaround time.
Develop and track operational budgets, revenue goals, and cost-saving opportunities.
Collaborate with finance teams to manage reimbursement, billing, and payer optimization.
Support and expand services such as bedside delivery, med-to-bed, synchronization, and transitions of care.
Partner with inpatient, specialty, and ambulatory teams to enhance integration of services.
Identify and implement new business opportunities (e.g., new retail locations, 340B expansion).
Supervise site-level pharmacy managers; support hiring, onboarding, and development.
Monitors and evaluates the performance of each location, addressing operational challenges and making adjustments as necessary.
Work closely with the Pharmacy Directors and site managers to ensure all pharmacies are meeting operational goals and performance metrics.
Work with the finance team to track and report financial results, forecasting needs, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Analyze financial performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to optimize profitability.
Collaborates with hospital staff to enhance patient care coordination, including medication therapy management and other pharmacy services.
Supports system wide initiatives aimed at expanding pharmacy offerings, such as immunizations, medication counseling, and chronic disease management services.
Identify new business opportunities, evaluate market trends, and contribute to the strategic growth of the pharmacy network.
