Central Washington University is recruiting an Enrollment Retention Advisor for HEP/MASA (High School Equivalency Program / Migrant Academics Services Academy) to join our High School Equivalency Program team in Yakima, Washington. The Role: This position will adhere to the Migrant Academics Services Academy (MASA) program's goals by recruiting eligible migrant Out of School Youth (OSY). This position will also provide specialized advising related to retention, career exploration, placement, vocational training, and/or postsecondary education to meet grants recruitment and placement goals. The Enrollment Retention Advisor directly affects the vision, mission, and values of Central Washington University by creating and promoting a welcoming environment where students, faculty, and staff feel supported and by promoting access to resources and opportunity for all students. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Two years' experience working with underrepresented and diverse populations, specifically migrant OSY.
  • Experience in program outreach, collaboration and working with community social service agencies.
  • Experience in education with demonstrated experience in student intervention/retention advising.
  • Valid Driver's license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation.
  • Bilingual/Biliterate in English and Spanish.
  • Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences.
  • OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Designated advisor for all program participants; participates in identifying, intervening and providing direct academic and support resources to at-risk student population; also develops reports for retention committee.
  • Provides general program application advising concerning the program admission process, program services, and post-secondary opportunities.
  • Facilitates student career development/planning, placement services and volunteer opportunities, internships, and employment skills development project, including educational/career cooperative relationships.
  • Coordinates educational and cultural events for students in collaboration with program assistant.
  • Coordinates MASA outreach and recruitment; manages recruitment campaign; assists director in conducting annual enrollment projections, facilitates enrollment plans to meet annual enrollment and pre-GED completion goals.
  • Coordinates recruitment with state and local MEP offices.
  • Creates program awareness via presentations and disseminating program information/flyers to local school MEP advocates, recruiters and OSY specialists.
  • Participates in maintaining cooperative/partnership agreements, including referral agents in Washington state, mainly in the Yakima area; maintains collaborative relationships with Central Washington Region service area migrant programs, school districts, DSHS, Employment Security, Workforce Investment Act, business/employer community and other outside agencies.
  • Ensures eligibility of prospective students and conducts quarterly student record audits/reports.
  • Independently evaluates the student application, academic records and work histories of prospective students, conducts interviews/staffing, and makes decisions regarding acceptance into the program (based on MEP eligibility criteria).
  • Participates in instructional committees on assessment/testing screening, academic interventions and individual education planning and goal setting; assists director in development of assessments, questionnaires and procedures for measuring the effectiveness of curriculum and instruction, including curriculum and instructional evaluations.
  • Attends staff, administrative, partnership, semi-annual board and other program related meetings.
  • Represents program on behalf of director on local/state educational and community committees/taskforces.
  • Completes quarterly, mid-year and annual reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
