About The Position

The ELL teacher is responsible to help ELL students increase their English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening by providing specific instruction to meet their individual needs. The teacher will also conduct testing, keep accurate records, work cooperatively with their grade-level teams in a French immersion program. All teachers are responsible for managing behavior and maintaining a positive classroom climate. The Secondary ELL teacher ensures that multilingual students receive equitable access to academic content while developing the English language skills needed for success in school and beyond. Status of Position This is a full-time position with Académie Lafayette. This is an exempt position pursuant to the U.S. Department of Labor. Reporting The ELL Teacher reports to their campus/building principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, TESOL, ESL, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in ESL/ELL (or eligibility to obtain one).
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition and effective instructional strategies for multilingual learners.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for diverse students.
  • Must pass a state and federal background check through MACHS.
  • Must be registered with the Family Care Safety Registry

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that develop students’ English language skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • Design instruction that integrates language development with grade-level academic content.
  • Differentiate instruction and use scaffolding strategies to support students with varying levels of English proficiency.
  • Assess students’ language proficiency and academic progress using formal and informal assessment tools.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and language development.
  • Collaborate with content-area teachers to support multilingual learners in general education classrooms.
  • Implement culturally responsive teaching practices that respect and value students’ diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Communicate with families and guardians regarding student progress and available support services.
  • Participate in professional development and remain current with best practices in language acquisition and ELL instruction.
  • Support students in developing confidence and independence in academic and social communication in English.
