About The Position

The ELA/ELL Teacher delivers integrated instruction to students in grades 9–12 within a collaborative classroom model. This role focuses on supporting diverse learners through inclusive practices, interdisciplinary curriculum, and differentiated instruction aligned with Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education standards and district expectations. The teacher works closely with teachers and support staff to design and implement engaging, standards-based lessons that build literacy, scientific inquiry, and critical thinking skills. Responsibilities include adapting curriculum materials, developing meaningful and sequential learning experiences, and using data to inform instruction and support student growth.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English (5–12) AND dual certification in ESL.
  • SEI endorsement
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
  • Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Massachusetts Model System for Educators as outlined above.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in English, ESL, or related field.
  • Master’s preferred.
  • In order to best serve all students, we prefer all core content teachers to be certified in their subject area and one or both of the following: Moderate Disabilities, English as a Second Language (at the appropriate grade level(s).

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement effective, standards-based units and lesson plans for students in grades 9–12
  • Plans a program of study that aligns with Massachusetts ELA and ESL Curriculum Frameworks and meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students to the extent possible
  • Promotes the development of literacy skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and analysis, alongside scientific reasoning and inquiry
  • Assess the learning of students in a way that ensures student growth and informs instruction
  • Collaborate with co-teachers, specialists, and building/district administration to ensure high-quality, inclusive instruction for all students
  • Differentiate instruction and materials to support a range of learning needs, including students with disabilities and multilingual learners
  • Communicate effectively with parents/families and community members; communicates with counselors and support staff on student progress
  • Supports the implementation of IEPs, 504 plans, and accommodations in collaboration with special education staff
  • Administers assessments in accordance with district and state practices
  • Participates in team meetings, professional development, and ongoing curriculum planning
  • Other duties as assigned
