About The Position

The Department of English Language and Literature at Central Michigan University seeks a full-time, benefit-eligible, fixed-term non-tenure-track faculty member for the Spring 2026 semester. This position begins on January 8, 2026, and ends on May 13, 2026, with the possibility of renewal for the 2026-27 academic year, pending performance and department need.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Composition and Rhetoric, English Language and Literature, or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching college composition and developmental writing.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students who struggle with writing, including those for whom English is a second language.
  • Experience teaching online or in hybrid delivery formats.
  • Experience as a Writing Center consultant.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four sections per semester, from among three courses (as needed and assigned): ENG 101 (Introductory Composition), ENG 103 (First-Year Writing, which also has a 1-credit Writing Center co-requisite), and ENG 201 (Intermediate Composition). Modalities may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online asynchronous. If reappointed for the 2026-27 academic year, these teaching duties will expand to include (as needed and assigned) two new composition courses: ENG 202: Narrative Nonfiction Writing and ENG 203: Technical Writing.
  • Engage in professional development activities within the department (as needed).
  • Fixed-term faculty are invited, but not required, to join department committees as well as committees, cohorts, and working groups at the college and university level.
