About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager Engineering Center, this position supervises, prioritizes, plans, and schedules the day-to-day activities of highly-skilled industrial trade employees. Activities will include Machining, Fabrication, and Pipe Fitting functions. The role provides leadership and supervision to the Engineering Workshop, including setting priorities for daily activities and administering company policies. The position requires coaching, mentoring, and training to develop skilled team members, with a commitment to staff development through the technical skill-level progression program. Utilizing advanced knowledge of Oracle and the engineering workflow process, the supervisor will proactively use available tools and performance metrics to analyze department workload to determine appropriate staffing levels and work schedules. The role also forecasts future Engineering Workshop workload and coordinates with crew leaders to ensure effective manpower allocation. Additionally, the supervisor monitors labor utilization variances to ensure maximum productivity and oversees work schedules and assignments for the groups. Daily priorities may be re-established as required to complete work assignments in adherence to schedules, quality standards, and operating budgets. The supervisor is responsible for achieving department performance goals and utilizing established company employee relations policies and procedures. Exceptions are referred to the manager as required. In coordination with the Engineering Workshop Crew Leaders, the supervisor estimates, requisitions, and ensures the delivery of materials or spare parts to the customer, while also monitoring and determining appropriate inventory levels of raw materials and parts in the workshop. The role includes reviewing incoming scope of work, priority, estimated man-hours, and required completion dates, assigning work orders to Engineering Workshop Crew Leaders and/or outside vendors for completion, and ensuring the availability of materials and creation of parts kits required for work execution. The supervisor coordinates with Crew Leaders and/or various company customers to confirm necessary access and availability for work performance, communicates fully with customers regarding work status and schedules, and refers any priority conflicts or schedule delays to the department manager for resolution. The supervisor is expected to lead continuous improvement efforts, develop innovative solutions to enhance productivity, customer service, and cost-effectiveness, and proactively seek feedback on the quality of completed work to drive further improvements. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor as dictated by business necessity.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Trade/Technical School Diploma.
  • Minimum of 7 years documented industry experience in metal fabrication, sanitary pipe fitting, and/or machining trades.
  • At least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Basic knowledge of manual and CNC machining, metal fabrication, general mechanics, and sanitary pipe fitting.
  • Proficient with computer software, including Oracle, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Project.
  • Skilled in optimizing team performance and labor utilization.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with emphasis on customer service and negotiation.
  • Ability to deal with conflict and ambiguity effectively.
  • Highly organized and a good communicator, both verbal and written.
  • Self-starter with good time management skills and adaptability to change.
