About The Position

The Engineering Technologist III will report to the station Technical Manager. The Engineering Technologist is responsible for daily execution and oversight of the station’s Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) program, with emphasis on equipment performance, technical troubleshooting, and communication of required and recommended maintenance practices. Additionally, this position will assess, propose, and complete improvement projects consistent with departmental goals and participate in the implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) practices for this area. The role involves conducting routine testing of process equipment, analyzing equipment failures, preparing technical reports, conducting engineering and related studies, and providing technical assistance/troubleshooting in resolving design, operation, and maintenance problems. The successful candidate is expected to model Environmental, Health, and Safety principles, develop positive working relationships, demonstrate effective communication skills, and maintain accurate records and files. Continuous improvement in job-related, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance is also expected.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 4+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 6+ years equivalent experience without a degree
  • Mandatory Hearing Protection Program
  • Ability to satisfactorily meet the physical job requirements including walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, working in hot or cold temperatures, exposure to dust, exposure to noise, and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Must pass respiratory physical, and be able to wear all required PPE (including but not limited to full- and half-face respirators and safety harness)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with plant reliability programs and concepts
  • Demonstrated ability and experience with large rotating equipment including but not limited to pumps, blowers, fans, compressors and turbines
  • Demonstrated familiarity with coal gasification, power generation, and associated equipment
  • Demonstrated ability and experience with material handling equipment, including but not limited to, conveyor systems, dust handling equipment, and vibratory shakers/feeders
  • Demonstrated experience with the collection and analysis of: Equipment vibration data
  • Demonstrated experience with the collection and analysis of: Thermography
  • Demonstrated experience with the collection and analysis of: Lubrication/tribology
  • Demonstrated experience with the collection and analysis of: Ultrasound
  • Demonstrated experience with the collection and analysis of: Pump flow characteristics
  • Demonstrated ability to create, review, and comment on equipment specifications and drawings
  • Demonstrated organizational/planning skills, with ability to multi-task and set work priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to develop simple engineering solutions to complex problems, while satisfying applicable code requirements
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills with craft, supervision, engineering, and management personnel
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with Ludeca laser alignment equipment
  • Experience with Bently-Nevada monitoring equipment
  • Experience with online vibration monitoring systems
  • Level II Vibration Analyst from an accredited institution

Responsibilities

  • Daily execution and oversight of the station’s Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) program, with emphasis on equipment performance, technical troubleshooting, and communication of required and recommended maintenance practices
  • Assess, propose, and complete improvement projects consistent with departmental goals
  • Participate in the implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) practices for this area
  • Conducts routine testing of process equipment, including, but not limited to collection and analysis of equipment vibration data, thermography, lubrication, and flow characteristics
  • Analyzes equipment failures and prepares reports regarding findings and cause of failures while identifying remedial actions, including revisions to the Maintenance strategy content and follows up on implementation of agreed actions
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, and documentation
  • Conducts engineering and related studies
  • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance
  • Provide technical assistance/troubleshooting in resolving design, operation and maintenance problems and contact internal and external experts as required
  • Model Environmental, Health, and Safety principles
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills
  • Maintains accurate records and files
