About The Position

Responsible for general building maintenance duties as assigned. Performs preventative and predictive maintenance tasks, to include repairs, replacement, and maintaining various items throughout the facility. This can include plumbing, door operation, door hardware repair, outdoor operations, life support repair and installation, as well as installation, repair and maintenance of exhibits in front and back of house areas when appropriate.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3-5 Five years of experience in building maintenance and life support trades
  • Proven history of progressively increasing responsibility; Self-starter
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair life support systems
  • Willing to learn and take on different skills/trades
  • Ability to understand and complete directions in order to complete minor repairs and improvements from concept to completion.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with pumps and pressure sand filters preferred
  • AALSO Life Support Operator Level 1 preferred
  • AALSO Water Quality Technician Level 1 preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on existing building facilities, life-support systems, exhibits and associated interactives as directed by management
  • Meets with the Engineering Lead to coordinate daily work schedule
  • Works on new installations, repairs and perform preventative maintenance to ensure all aquarium areas are best in class
  • Maintains exhibit and support areas in a manner that will not obstruct daily operations or impact guest experience
  • Maintains minor building infrastructure needs and repairs
  • Assists with larger in-house projects as needed
  • Conducts routine maintenance inspections
  • Carries a radio on person and responds to departmental and facility needs when notified
  • Adapts to project changes as priority dictates
  • Completes a rigid training program on all facility equipment, and cross-training in life support operations to assist as needed. Required to pass certifications for forklift, boom lift, telehandler, and electric pallet jack operation
  • Follows all safety policies, procedures and requirements, to include use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required
  • Ensures schedule flexibility with event coverage rotation as needed; may be assigned to work events after normal operating hours
  • Participates in on call rotation for after-hours emergencies
  • Delivers extraordinary customer service to all aquarium guests and internal customers
  • Maintains AZA readiness at all times
  • May be required to participate in rotating Hurricane ride out team on a seasonal basis
  • Supports the development of small Life-Support Systems
  • Maintains positive attitude in adverse situations
  • Supports TFA’s Shared Purpose by participating in a Conservation Day of Action shift on an annual basis
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or required
