About The Position

The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs. Lead Technician to be a recognized Subject Matter Expert / Technical Operations Lead for multiple systems. Primary support will be core stage operations and core stage GSE maintenance. Individual will support Launch Vehicle Processing of the Artemis Launch Vehicles at Kennedy Space Center. This support will include flight hardware assembly operations, testing and validations of flight and ground systems. Guide department technicians in a team environment, insuring detailed instructions and schematics are being followed for all aspects of flight hardware. Responsible for reviewing daily schedules and assigning tasks to technicians. Attend necessary meetings as department representative. Oversee and verify technician certifications. Monitor daily work crew progress and report progress to appropriate Flow Management / Area Integrators / Department Manager. Resolve issues that arise with department technicians. Examples: work authorization clarification, tools or materials needed, questions involving drawings or specs. Establish close communication with engineering. Perform Task Team Leader (TTL) function on critical operations for flight hardware systems and / or Ground Support Equipment systems. Perform internal audits (toolboxes, has-waste, JSA's, etc.) per the direction of management. Designated Training Instructor for any lower-level technicians on flight and ground systems. Has supported processing for a minimum of 1 launch campaign (Artemis, Shuttle, or another launch program). Candidate will instill safety and direction to group and be involved with department property account responsibilities. Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, technical training in the applicable area of expertise, and required certifications and 20 years of related experience and technical training and certification as required across all areas of industry accepted disciplines for the technical support to aerospace systems and equivalent.
  • Must be able to follow work instructions, interpret engineer drawing and follow stringent work area rules and safety protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • Must demonstrate moderate level of proficiency in mechanical or electrical technical operations.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must be able to pass SCAPE physical and maintain a security clearance.
  • Must be able to work Weekends and Off-Shifts, if required.
  • Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for trouble shooting.
  • Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection, and other associated personal protective equipment.
  • Position will involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
  • Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
  • Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.
  • Full-time work hours.
  • Position may require occasional overtime, including weekend work, depending on task.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Shift work may be required.
  • Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication.
  • Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • Must comply with all "drug free workplace" requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
  • Government security clearance may be required in the future.
  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
