About The Position

This role will be working with the Naval Surface Warfare Center, upon reward of contract. The Engineering Technician, Mechanical provides advanced technical support for the testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of small watercraft mechanical systems. This role requires hands-on expertise with propulsion, steering, hydraulic, and auxiliary systems, as well as leadership in guiding a team of technicians performing complex mechanical work. The technician ensures that all maintenance and testing activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable standards, specifications, and technical manuals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of combined small watercraft mechanical experience required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years performing testing, maintenance, repairs, operations, and troubleshooting of small watercraft mechanical systems required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience leading a mechanical team required.
  • Certification or training in marine mechanics, diesel engines, or related mechanical systems.
  • Experience with U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, or other military small watercraft programs.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation, technical data packages, and test plans.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • May require lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, mechanical measurement instruments, and maintenance software.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of small watercraft mechanical systems and components.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Oversee and participate in installation, modification, and performance testing of mechanical systems.
  • Lead and train junior mechanical technicians in maintenance, repair, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Ensure all mechanical work is performed in accordance with engineering drawings, technical manuals, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance and test records, and prepare technical reports as required.
  • Support system-level testing and evaluation activities, including instrumentation setup and data collection.
  • Collaborate with engineering staff and program management to plan and execute maintenance and testing schedules.
  • Enforce safety, environmental, and quality control standards at all times.
  • Recommend process improvements and assist in the development of maintenance procedures.
