About The Position

Perform materials sampling and testing on projects and in the laboratory. Perform inspections at plants and on projects. Compile and maintain test results and report findings. Maintain and operate testing equipment. Provide technical support to assigned engineering program area.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with VDOT staff as well as external contacts and consultants. Proactively resolve issues at the lowest level. Project a positive VDOT image. Keep supervisor advised of important development and field observations.

  • Apply principles and practices of engineering technology to assigned program areas. Interpret policies and procedures and apply in daily work assignments.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on testing equipment. Follow appropriate guidelines for equipment storage, use, and transport.
  • Monitor and document materials placement techniques, testing, and equipment at project site. Assist field staff on proper testing procedures and preparation of samples for materials testing. Collect samples from project site. Compute and document test results. Assist with monitoring large concrete pours or asphalt paving that may require working at irregular hours.
  • Conduct laboratory tests on material samples collected from project sites. Compute and document test results.
  • Inspect materials production and collect samples at plant. Assist with plant laboratory inspections. Perform statistical sampling in accordance with VDOT quality assurance program. Input data and assist with data analysis and preparation of reports for distribution.
  • Prepare and maintain daily documentation of project activities. Ensure documentation is submitted and is completed. Avoid project delays and solve project related matters.
