About The Position

This position is responsible for directing and managing the activities of the Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Sub-unit to ensure PCC and related mixture production, contractor quality control activities, department quality assurance activities, and mixture characteristics comply with contract requirements on state and local agency projects.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience OR seven years of engineering experience.
  • Active Portland Cement Concrete Level I and Level II Technician Certification.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.
  • Requires a Portland Cement Concrete Level III Technician Certification received 12-18 months from the start date.
  • Requires a valid driver's license.
  • Requires district-wide travel and some state-wide travel, which may include overnight stays.
  • Required overtime availability.
  • Requires the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions on construction projects, roadways open to traffic, and production facilities.
  • Requires the ability to traverse stairs, ladders, and rough terrain and be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Requires successful completion of pre-employment physical and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

  • Ability to supervise, train, and motivate subordinate personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and manages the activities of the Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Sub-Unit.
  • Ensures PCC mix designs, component materials, production facilities, mixture production, quality control, and quality assurance meet contract and department requirements.
  • Reviews, approves, documents, and monitors the performance of PCC mix designs.
  • Reviews and approves Producer Quality Control Plans and individual contract addendums.
  • Evaluates the impact of changes in practice on mixture availability and properties.
  • Ensures required PCC related materials information and documentation is completed and managed according to department requirements.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
