This posting is for an Engineering Technician II position located in the Albemarle Construction Office. The position will support higher level technicians and engineers in administering construction contracts via construction inspection and, if needed, stakeout. Position may serve as lead project inspector on small to intermediate-sized projects as needed. Position requires the performance of standardized and non–standardized tests of various materials for acceptance in accordance with contract documents and incorporated specifications and requirements. Employee may assist in supervision of lower-level technicians and CEI personnel, as well as help in the coordination of work assignments. Employee must be proficient in record keeping. Daily duties will include, but are not limited to, writing diaries and reports on project operations, completing various material reports, documenting pay records, performing construction calculations, and computer/iPad entry of reports/data. Employee must apply Department safety program to operations. Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards present on construction sites including traffic, heights, weather extremes, and traversing rough/uneven terrain. Employee must be able to communicate in a clear, concise manner, both orally and in writing. Ability to make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment is necessary. Employee must have proficiency using computers and electronic tablets. Experience with construction surveying and knowledge of surveying methods and procedures is preferred. Employee must be able to perform moderate physical activity such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing. Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds. Employee must be able to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing and inspection duties. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as necessary and as operations require. Safety toe shoes are needed. Selected candidate will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
