About The Position

This posting is for an Engineering Technician I position located in The NCDOT Division 9 – Salisbury Resident Engineer’s Office in Rowan County. The Salisbury Resident Engineer’s Office is seeking a highly motivated individual looking for a position with the potential of career advancement. This position performs technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, surveying, materials testing, materials sampling, erosion control inspection, and construction traffic control audits on assigned projects. Work functions may include: inspection for compliance and/or code; collection and analysis of field data; testing of materials; review and interpret design plans; analysis of engineering related data and/or product data. Duties may also include: construction layout, measuring, staking, marking, and clearing brush. This position will perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Close visual acuity to use testing instruments, to read plan details, to make accurate field measurements and to inspect roadway and structure components.
  • Ability to be exposed to high traffic volumes.
  • Ability to work at heights over water or traffic.
  • Ability to climb on the substructure and superstructure of bridges.
  • Ability to safely perform manual tasks involving the bush axe and other tools on steep and rough terrain.
  • Ability to carry testing equipment over rough and steep terrain.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely work high above ground.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Proficiency in record keeping.
  • Proficiency in engineering testing equipment.
  • Valid driver's license (preferred).
  • Safety-toed shoes required.
  • Successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
  • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad and software.
  • Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.
  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
  • Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience.

Responsibilities
