This posting is for an Engineering Technician I position in the Lexington Construction Resident Engineer’s Office. This position performs technical duties, while supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, materials testing, project surveying, and program/regulatory compliance. Work functions may include inspection for compliance with contract documents, standards, and specifications, testing of materials, review of plans, analysis of engineering related data, and construction surveying/layout. This position will also assist in all aspects of office engineering and assist the Resident Engineer.

Requirements

  • Ability to work safely in both office and outside environments with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction
  • Ability to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, standing, and able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, as required, for projects assigned to within the Division
  • Employee will be subject to emergency callback and inclement weather
  • Safety-toed shoes required
  • Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation
  • Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, including iPad and software
  • Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports
  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
  • Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical duties, while supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, materials testing, project surveying, and program/regulatory compliance
