This position is located in the Division Resident Engineer’s Office in Castle Hayne and involves performing inspection and materials testing duties on roadway construction projects. Assigned projects may include asphalt resurfacing, pavement preservation, structure replacement, safety improvements, and other related transportation initiatives. The selected candidate will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining required certifications for inspection and materials testing and will support higher-level technicians as needed. Primary duties include documenting daily contractor progress, tracking and verifying quantities for monthly pay estimates, and ensuring all work complies with project plans, specifications, and NCDOT Standards. The Technician will also verify that traffic control, erosion control, and safety procedures are properly implemented. The role requires maintaining positive and effective communication with technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public, with the ability to communicate clearly, concisely, professionally, and persuasively. The position involves working safely outdoors in active construction environments that may include exposure to heights, highway traffic, rough terrain, and heavy equipment. Moderate physical activity is required, including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The selected candidate must be available for night and weekend work, including assignments before, during, or after storm events or emergency situations, and must be able to travel to any assigned project within the Division. The selected applicant will be expected to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle. A degree is not required to qualify for this position.
