About The Position

Engineering Technician I Location: Huntsville, AL (NASA Marshall Space Flight Center – Redstone Arsenal) Contract: METTS III Astrion is seeking an Engineering Technician I to support the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support (METTS) III contract at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. The METTS III contract provides a broad range of engineering technician and trade support services, along with professional and management oversight of technical staff in support of NASA missions and programs. This entry-level technical position provides semi-professional support to engineers involved in research, design, development, testing, and manufacturing process improvement activities. Work typically involves electrical, electronic, or mechanical components and is performed under close supervision following established procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience reading blueprints and understanding parts lists
  • Basic practical knowledge of electrical, electronic, or mechanical components
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Public Trust clearance required
  • Applicants selected for positions requiring a security clearance will be subject to a background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and work effectively under supervision
  • All positions supporting the METTS III contract are contingent upon successful completion of NASA medical screenings at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter. Screening requirements are based on the Safety, Health, and Environmental Job Assessment Questionnaire.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, or lift occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods as required by assigned tasks

Responsibilities

  • Assemble or install equipment or parts requiring basic wiring, soldering, or mechanical connections
  • Perform simple or routine tests such as tensile or hardness tests
  • Operate and adjust basic test equipment in accordance with detailed instructions
  • Record and maintain engineering data including test results, drawings, and related documentation
  • Gather, organize, and maintain specified engineering records
  • Perform basic computations by substituting values into established formulas
  • Plot data and prepare simple curves or graphs
  • Assist engineers with design support activities, including preparing or updating drawings and parts lists
