About The Position

This is a repost, all previous applicants must reapply to be considered. This posting is for an Engineering Technician I position in the Smithfield Construction Resident Engineer's Office. This position performs technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, surveying, materials testing, materials sampling, erosion control inspection and construction traffic control audits on assigned projects. Work functions may include: inspection for compliance and/or code; collection and analysis of field data; testing of materials; review and interpret design plans; analysis of engineering related data and/or product data. Duties may also include: construction layout, measuring, staking, marking, and clearing brush. This position will perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation
  • establish and maintain positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, contractors and public
  • Traverse rough terrain in evaluating highway construction
  • Apply safety philosophy and program to all operations
  • Ability to work in close proximity to high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment
  • Accurately maintain daily records of work accomplished
  • Safety-toed shoes required
  • The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.
  • Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, including iPad and software.
  • Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.
  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
  • Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience.
