Solano Irrigation District is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform a variety of paraprofessional engineering field and office tasks – with Underground Service Alerts (USA) locating and field marking as the primary, daily responsibility. This position plays a critical safety role for District and partner-agency infrastructure by ensuring accurate locating, timely USA ticket response, and clear communication with excavators. Typical work includes USA research and field markings, documenting and updating map data, drafting, surveying, technical support for Engineers, Operations, and the District Engineer. Candidates must be comfortable spending most of their day performing office research and field-based USA activities and interacting directly with contractors and the public. Other assignments may include construction inspection, drafting, surveying and mapping. Engineering Technician I – This is the entry-level classification in the Engineering Technician series. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks and are expected to progress to working under general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned responsibilities are learned. Engineering Technician II – This is the journey-level classification in the series and is distinguished from the level I by the full range of assigned duties. Incumbents at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are normally filled by advancement from level I. The ideal candidate is a motivated problem-solver who values accuracy and teamwork. They must be comfortable spending most of their day office research and USA locating in the field and regularly communicating with excavators, contractors, coworkers, and the public. For the entry-level Engineering Technician I, the District is seeking someone eager to learn and grow, with strong attention to detail and an interest in developing skills in surveying, drafting, and engineering support. For the journey-level Engineering Technician II, the District is seeking someone with proven experience in a broad range of engineering support functions who can work independently, exercise sound judgment, and collaborate effectively.
