Our Values: Integrity Common Sense Innovation Accountability Position Data: Engineering Technician II-J23-U14-H Regular Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime) Overview: Job Description Summary Pay Range: Engineering Tech I: $24.23 - $30.73 per hour (Engineering Pay Plan, ENG23 Step 1-13) Pay Range: Engineering Tech II: $28.87-$36.91 per hour (Engineering Pay Plan, ENG24 Step 1-13) Hiring Range: Engineering Tech I: $24.23 - $25.71 per hour (Engineering Pay Plan, ENG23 Step 1-4 DOQ) Hiring Range: Engineering Tech II: $28.87 - $30.63 per hour (Engineering Pay Plan, ENG24 Step 1-4 DOQ) Position Closes: Open Until Closed with weekly reviews starting 10/20/25 There is one Engineering Technician I/II-Materials Lab opening with the Yakima County Roads Division. This position primarily is responsible for providing field project administration, contract compliance, quality control and approving/testing of materials for County capital improvement projects. Engineering Technician I is an Entry-Level position. Engineering Technician II is a Journey-Level position. Requirements

  • Engineering Technician I: High School or (G.E.D.) AND Two (2) years of relevant work experience in area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
  • Engineering Technician II: Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in Engineering, Surveying or related field AND Four (4) years of relevant work experience in area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • (Note: Applicants with equivalent education and or experience must provide a detailed explanation.)
  • Ability to obtain certification for Nuclear Densometer within one year of employment.
  • Valid WA State Driver's License and proof of insurance, if requested.
  • Successful completion of a general employment verification.

Responsibilities

  • Manages assigned projects including related activities such as recommending and approving materials, resolving problems and providing quality control.
  • Monitors and reviews project plans, drawings and specifications for accuracy including collecting, gathering and interpreting engineering data for routine engineering projects or portions of complex projects.
  • Determining the type and frequency of testing required for all materials and expediting collection of samples and testing of same. Contacting necessary people with the results in a timely fashion.
  • Prepares and maintains all project related materials documentation as required by State and Federal guidelines.
  • Orders, inventories and repairs materials testing equipment.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
