About The Position

Who will you be working with? The Wabtec Mining team delivers world class electric drive propulsion systems for heavy haul mining trucks with payloads up to 400T. These systems are introducing new technology to help mines meet their sustainability goals. How will you make a difference? In this role you will work with the control team to develop, implement, and validate controls for electric drive mining vehicles. You’ll have the opportunity to interact directly with customers and cross functional teams during project definition and execution. What do we want to know about you? Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent field) Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering preferred. Minimum of 8 years of experience in: Control and system validation for motors, alternators, and power electronic systems Electromechanical system testing System design and circuit analysis EMC testing and compliance Modeling and analysis using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink Project management What will your typical day look like? Report to the Engineering Manager for the Mining Controls team and collaborate with the Engineering organization. Plan and manage multiple concurrent tests at the customer proving ground, including truck‑level EMC and propulsion validation, as well as component and feature V&V—ensuring safety, compliance, logistics, materials, staffing, and communication needs are met. Configure vehicles and components for test activities. Set up electrical and mechanical test equipment, including oscilloscopes, probes, spectrum analyzers, antennas, accelerometers, temperature sensors, and data acquisition systems. Conduct tests, analyze data, troubleshoot issues, implement corrective actions, and prepare test reports with engineering teams. Maintain strong working relationships with the customer and coordinate with site management and test personnel on planning and execution. Resolve assigned field issues. Travel periodically for 1–3 week durations to support testing and issue investigations. What about the physical demands of the job? Candidates will be conducting testing at a customer’s proving grounds and periodically may work in a full-scale propulsion system test lab or support field testing at mines. The below physical capabilities are essential: Able to climb multistory access stairs and/or ladders on large mining trucks to perform validation testing at mines. Work with hand-coded control models and interpret models and simulations. Operate test instrumentation. You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary. The salary rate for this role is currently $91000-129800 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. Requirements
