The Role This role leads the global strategy, design direction, and technical governance for Exhaust Systems and Components, ensuring commonality, performance, and cost efficiency across all applications. It provides deep technical leadership while guiding regional engineering teams, resolving system-level issues, and driving alignment with key partners like GPS, Purchasing, and Vehicle Performance. The position also champions continuous learning, best‑practice development, and the execution of complex, cross‑functional engineering initiatives.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 8+ years hands‑on experience in Exhaust System engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of Exhaust system architecture, design tradeoffs, testing, and manufacturing methods.
  • Knowledge of competitive systems, performance benchmarks, and cost drivers.
  • DRE experience in exhaust (or equivalent technical depth).
  • Solid understanding of the full product design and development lifecycle.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree – Engineering.
  • 10 years hands-on experience in engineering Exhaust Systems.
  • DFSS - Black Belt.
  • Previous work experience with Vehicle Performance, or experience as a performance engineer.
  • Previous experience in or with AVDC.
  • TS Experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute global technical and commercial strategies for future Exhaust Systems and Components.
  • Define common, reusable Exhaust System strategies that meet performance, cost, and mass targets across applications.
  • Drive global communication, knowledge‑sharing, and alignment on strategy, technology, and process rollout.
  • Guide AVDC engineering teams to ensure future designs meet all requirements.
  • Develop and maintain best practices, peer reviews, eSOR templates, DFMEAs, ICDs, EWS, and GMWs.
  • Ensure subsystem specifications, requirements, and validation documents are accurate, current, and complete.
  • Lead the Closed Loop Learning process.
  • Monitor Chassis ATW projects for Exhaust‑related impacts.
  • Collaborate with GM Purchasing, Vehicle Performance, and Global Propulsion Systems to define and refine requirements.
  • Provide technical direction to global engineering teams.
  • Manage broad, complex projects with minimal supervision and high independent judgment.
  • Resolve Exhaust System requirement conflicts across engineering, organizational, and functional boundaries.
  • Escalate unresolved system issues and drive closure through established processes.
  • Mentor and support global Exhaust DREs.
  • Build strong relationships and resolve issues with interfacing systems (GPS, Body, Studio, etc.).
  • Lead global teams to ensure capability development and consistent learning across all regions.
