Requirements

  • A combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 4 years’ engineering and/or architecture experience and 3 years leadership experience
  • Demonstrated hands‑on technical experience, working directly with Angular front ends, .NET Core/C# back‑end services, and microservices‑based, containerized platforms such as OpenShift.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Complete understanding of the system development life cycle
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with modern application development platforms and architectures
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong decision‑making, project management, and presentation skills
  • Experience leading teams, encouraging collaboration, and serving as a role model
  • Understanding of technical, business, and operational impacts of technology initiatives

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of technology management or large program leadership experience
  • Experience supporting business or commercial banking platforms, including account opening and KYC workflows
  • Exposure to or experience integrating with platforms such as Hogan and other core banking systems
  • Proven mentoring and leadership capabilities
  • Strong understanding of application frameworks, integrated systems, and cross‑team dependencies
  • Awareness of the Bank’s business plan and strategic objectives, with the ability to shape technical direction
  • Self‑motivated leader with the ability to motivate and develop others

Responsibilities

  • Manage and participate in consults with client management to analyze short‑range business requirements and recommend innovative solutions that anticipate future business needs, with a strong focus on business and commercial banking capabilities.
  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership for multiple engineering teams supporting application development and modernization efforts.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, managing expectations and delivery commitments.
  • Monitor technology direction and emerging industry trends relevant to modern web applications and banking platforms.
  • Research and initiate changes to existing approaches where appropriate to improve delivery speed, quality, and user experience.
  • Oversee application development, testing, infrastructure coordination, and technology project execution across assigned teams.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert within the assigned technology area, including platforms supporting account opening, KYC, and related integrations
  • Coordinate work across teams and external partners, including Commercial Technology and downstream platform teams.
  • Assign personnel to projects, manage workloads, and ensure delivery against established schedules.
  • Implement technology solutions consistent with division standards, long‑range plans, and documentation requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into technical direction and assist teams in preparing detailed specifications and designs.
  • Manage project plans, identify risks and issues, and coordinate major project activities as needed.
  • Develop and manage multiple cost center budgets.
  • Recommend and initiate policies and procedures that improve department performance and effectiveness.
  • Exercise managerial authority related to staffing, performance management, promotions, and compensation recommendations.
  • Ensure adherence to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, including the design and maintenance of appropriate internal controls.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely remediation of audit findings and regulatory issues.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
