Charlotte Water’s Environmental Management Division is seeking a motivated Summer Engineering Intern to support engineering, operations, and research & development (R&D) initiatives at wastewater treatment facilities. This position will assist with data analysis, field observations, pilot and R&D projects, and general engineering support related to treatment processes and residuals management. The intern will work closely with engineers, plant operations, and R&D staff to support performance evaluation, documentation, and continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • At least a sophomore pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, environmental science, or construction management at an accredited university.
  • Must provide own means of transportation to and from the job site.
  • Interest in wastewater treatment, infrastructure, and applied research
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and clearly document findings
  • Willingness to work in field and plant environments
  • Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office 365, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers with data collection, analysis, and interpretation related to treatment processes and facility performance
  • Support R&D and pilot projects, including field observations, sampling coordination, and documentation of results
  • Help develop technical summaries, figures, and presentations for internal use
  • Participate in site visits to wastewater treatment facilities and support coordination with operations staff
  • Assist with tracking project tasks, schedules, and action items
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and special projects as assigned
