Job Title: Engineering Specialist Job Location: 12301 Kurland Drive, Houston, TX 77034 Primary Function : The Engineering Specialist performs engineering and design duties as well as organizes all activities required for the development and implementation of high voltage electrical substation projects across a multidisciplinary team of drafters, designers, and various levels of engineers. The Engineering Specialist drives project schedules and budgets for multiple projects at a time and functions as a Company contact for clients and vendors.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required, a power focus is preferred.
• A minimum of five years of direct experience and proven knowledge in high voltage (138kV and above) electrical substation engineering and design field is required.
• Possess skills in the following areas:
• Strong knowledge and understanding of high voltage electrical substation components and their functions at 138kV and above
• Extensive knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals
• Strong knowledge and understanding of three phase power systems, per-unit mathematics, and symmetrical components
• Knowledge of common engineering application software
• Strong Knowledge and understanding of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI
• Strong knowledge of design documents and drawings necessary to complete a project
• Supervising a project team in a technical work environment
• Knowledge of common word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail software
• Working in a team environment
• Communicating effectively with co-workers, vendors, clients, etc.
• This position requires minimal physical effort.
• Must be able to endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for a minimum of 8 hours a day
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure to year around weather conditions and noise.
• Must be able and willing to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings as required (10%)
• Working extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically.
• May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at a time.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that projects are managed to meet project quality, schedule and profitability objective.
• Supervise and coordinate all project activities to ensure on time completion.
• Assign tasks to project design team based on project needs.
• Work with project team to create or modify all design documents.
• Ensure project team is using project specific standards and that the design effort is progressing in the most efficient manner possible.
• Develop one line diagrams, electrical plans, and specifications for a project.
• Apply engineering application software to complete tasks such as ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, load flow, and short circuit studies.
• Perform engineering and design functions as necessary to meet project schedules.
• Communicate and coordinate project activities with customer representatives, project team, and management.
• Prepare, coordinate, and track project schedules and budgets, and ensure projects remain within allotted budgets and schedules and address deviations with management.
• Ensure project team applies engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI.
• Properly use the document management system.
• Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work.
• Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party.
• Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments.
