About The Position

This position is located in the Division 6 / District 2 Office in Cumberland County. This position will provide technical support work and perform a wide variety of complex assignments. This work includes the evaluation of roadways for the resurfacing and pavement preservation programs, assistance with Driveway Permit, Encroachment Agreement, and subdivision reviews and additions, and performance of other duties as directed by the District Engineer. This position will coordinate and monitor work progress with other Department employees and will also communicate with contractors, utility owners, and property owners. A wide range of decision making and engineering judgement will be required, often with limited supervision, and this position may be asked to provide supervision and training to lower-level technicians. Additional Expectations: Ability to plan, organize and schedule highway maintenance operations. Ability to make independent decisions. Possess working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Communicate effectively with co-workers, departmental personnel, contractors, local and state officials, and the general public. Ability to understand, explain and administer project assignments. Ability to interpret plans provisions, specifications, policies, procedures, and regulations. Safety toe shoes required.

Requirements

  • Ability to plan, organize and schedule highway maintenance operations.

  • Associate’s degree in an applicable area of engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and six (6) years of progressive technician experience; or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and eight (8) years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
  • Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups.
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
  • Computer experience including office software and drafting software.
