Job Summary: Join Caterpillar’s fastest growing division as an Engineering Project Team Leader in the Rental Engineering group. In this role you will lead a team of experienced engineers to design the next generation of 16 kW – 2 MW mobile gensets fueled by diesel and natural gas for a global market. Develop your own style as a project leader engaging an experienced team of engineers in technical discussions and interacting with dealers and customers. Responsibilities include activities across the entire product life cycle from new product development to product maintenance to obsolescence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum preferred.
  • Technical Excellence : Extensive knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. Advises others on the assessment and provision of all technical solutions. Engages appropriate subject matter resources to effectively resolve technical issues. Mentors others to enhance their technical competence and its application to achieve more effective technical solutions. Coaches others in promoting, defining, analyzing, and providing superior technical solutions to business problems. Provides effective solutions to moderate technical challenges through strong technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues. Assumes accountability for personal technical performance and holds others responsible for theirs.
  • Product Design and Development: Extensive knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production. Advises on the appropriate solutions to complex product design and development problems. Designs working prototypes of a variety of proposed products or services. Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution. Coaches others how to resolve integration or communications problems in multi-vendor environment. Advises colleagues on implementation and operational considerations.
  • Team Management: Extensive knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams. Communicates complex ideas and concepts in a clear and concise manner so that others can understand. Communicates both within the team and to stakeholders. Ensures the successful completion of all major activities, tasks and deliverables Produces detailed functional requirements, information and documentation. Provides relevant, timely and objective subject matter/process expertise
  • Project Management: Expert knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives. Manages multiple high-risk, high-cost projects involving multiple stakeholders. Ensures that team members are on board, unified, and moving in the same direction. Coaches others in open communication Monitors major projects for critical path and actual status versus planned. Brings projects to closure and ensures capture of what can be learned from the experience.

Responsibilities

  • Create project timelines and deliver on milestone dates
  • Create cost targets and manage tracking through bill of material roll-ups
  • Ensure designs meet regulatory requirements and customer-required certifications such as CE, CSA, UL and CSC
  • Lead design reviews and summarize technical objectives & results for stakeholders at gateway reviews
  • Organize and lead technical discussions to resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Translate functional specs into technical deliverables for the team
  • Interface with subject matter experts across the corporation to obtain and apply relevant information
  • Lead product design, bill of material definition, product integration, and 3D model development across multiple product lines
  • Confirm technical deliverables are met through the validation test plan and results
  • Guide and develop team members while allowing yourself to be developed in return
  • Deliver technical presentations to educate on the functionality and capabilities of Rental gensets
  • Interact with dealers and customers to diagnose technical issues with the product
  • Deliver follow up responses to dealers and process partners regarding interim and permanent corrective actions
