About The Position

The iconic Hotel del Coronado is looking for a Project Manager to join the team! Be part of America’s beachfront legend and after a more than $550M restoration and revitalization, this Victorian seaside resort is more stunning than ever. Located on Coronado Island just minutes from Downtown San Diego, this 28-acre National Historic Landmark was built in 1888 and has 938 guest rooms, cottages and villas with 97,500 square feet of banquet space, and 12 food and beverage outlets. This includes 9 restaurants & bars, marketplace, gelato shop, and in-room dining. This position reports directly to the director of property operations. The Project Manager – Capital & Operational Projects is a critical leader responsible for delivering high-impact initiatives that enhance the resort’s physical assets, operational excellence, and guest experience. This role provides full lifecycle oversight of capital improvements, refurbishment projects, and select operational initiatives—ensuring each project is executed with precision, efficiency, and alignment to the Del’s legendary standards. The Project Manager owns all aspects of project delivery, including planning, approvals, budgeting, scheduling, and execution. Partnering closely with ownership, operational leadership, and cross-functional teams, this role ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, and with minimal disruption to the guest experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage projects through all phases of development, from concept and approvals through execution and closeout
  • Provide clear scope definition, detailed schedules, and accurate budgets for all assigned projects
  • Own project lifecycle performance, including schedule adherence, budget control, and overall profitability
  • Oversee capital improvement and refurbishment projects across the resort, ensuring alignment with brand standards and long-term asset strategy
  • Coordinate design, procurement, and construction activities, including contracting and managing architects, consultants, and contractors
  • Provide technical direction and ensure compliance with all applicable local and state building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards
  • Develop, refine, and maintain detailed project schedules with clearly defined milestones and deliverables
  • Allocate resources effectively and adjust plans proactively based on operational needs and project changes
  • Partner closely with operational leadership to plan project timing, minimize business disruption, and respond to evolving scope requirements
  • Manage all project accounting functions, including budgeting, forecasting, and expense tracking
  • Monitor costs to minimize financial risk and identify opportunities for savings
  • Provide transparent financial reporting and updates to ownership and senior leadership
  • Oversee FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment) planning, procurement, and installation in partnership with Purchasing and operational teams
  • Ensure timely coordination of materials, vendor schedules, and installations to meet project timelines
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for ownership, property leadership, and key stakeholders
  • Provide regular, executive-level updates on project status, risks, and financial performance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments including Operations, Purchasing, IT, and Engineering
  • Lead contractor buy-out processes, including scope review and selection of trade partners
  • Manage contracts, vendor performance, and project deliverables to ensure quality and accountability
  • Participate in and lead contractor meetings, ensuring alignment on expectations, timelines, and outcomes
  • Ensure all projects meet brand standards, design intent, and guest experience expectations
  • Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies to protect timelines, budgets, and operations
  • Oversee punch list completion and ensure seamless project closeout and turnover to operations
  • Maintain accurate and organized project documentation within project management systems
  • Ensure all records, contracts, and updates are completed, tracked, and properly filed
  • Communicate project progress and performance to senior leadership through structured reporting
