About The Position

The Engineering Project Manager position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation & Mobility is responsible for managing and coordinating, and instructing large, complex, multi-disciplinary capital improvement projects from design through construction within the traffic engineering division. Work is performed under the supervision of the Engineering Manager. This position leads and instructs the daily operational work of engineering personnel.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience: Three (3) years directly related
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on year-for-year basis.
  • License/Certifiction: Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona
  • A Valid and unrestricted Driver License with two (2) years of licensend driving is required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Civil Engineering or Construction Management and three (3) years of Engineering related Experience

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and conducts preconstruction meetings.
  • Attends weekly project construction meetings.
  • Coordinates with inspectors and contractors on construction issues.
  • Prepares and issues supplemental agreements.
  • Reviews traffic control plans for right-of-way (ROW) permits and project submittals.
  • Prepares and issues supplemental agreements.

  • Reviews and processes pay estimates.
  • Negotiates, prepares, and issues contract modifications.
  • Generates project special provisions.

  • Provides project updates and addresses questions from the Ward offices.
  • Coordinates with the public information team for public project meetings to discuss design and project timelines with constituents regarding projects in their neighborhood.
  • Reviews plans, reports, cost estimates, and specifications for quality, technical competence, code, standard compliance and constructability.
  • Collaborates on design plans with other departments and divisions.
  • Investigates and provides direction for design challenges.
  • Approves utility relocation for final traffic project plans.
  • Partners with real estate on project design to ensure compliance standards for property acquisitions and easements to ensure alignment with city standards.
  • Coordinates utility relocations, including permitting reviews (traffic control plans for utility relocations).
  • Reviews and negotiates scopes and fees with consultants.
  • Coordinates property acquisitions.
  • Prepares request for proposal documents and participates in the selection of consultants.
  • Prepares pre-bid materials for construction contracts, respond to questions, reviews bids and issues recommendations.
  • Provides guidance and instruction to engineering personnel, contractors, and consultants.
  • Trains and mentors engineering personnel.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
