Closing Date: 4/20/2026 Engineering Project Manager (Design) Department of Transportation Annual Salary Range: $94,432.00 – $141,648.00 Job Summary: Under limited supervision, administer and manage all engineering projects from start to finish and to perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Current resident of the state of WI
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license at time of application and maintained throughout employment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering.
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in Civil Engineering and Project Management.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Wisconsin.
  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Intermediate knowledge of AUTOCAD CIVIL3D preferred
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Exchange of basic information with internal and/or external contacts. Maintain sensitive or confidential information. Explain and gather information, answer queries, or provide assistance to internal and/or external contacts. Persuade, confirm or recommend course of action with internal and/or external contacts. Read, write and comprehend simple instructions, reports, short correspondence and memos. Speak effectively before both internal and/or external groups. Read, analyze, and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals, scientific/technical journals and procedures, government regulations, financial and legal documents. Makes minimal decision-making responsibility. Make decisions of responsibility involving evaluation of information; decisions may require development or application of alternatives or precedents. Experience with the design process needed to achieve PS & E. Knowledgeable about the WisDOT Facilities Development Manual (FDM).

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage the engineering projects in Transportation Services, including scheduling, contracting, consultant management, staffing, budgets, conflict resolution, quality control, quality assurance, record keeping, project finalizing, PS & E and all associated deliverables.
  • Maintain the County Trunk Highways (CTH’s) through scheduled improvements and coordination with the highway maintenance department.
  • Plan and design highway related components (i.e. profiles, cross sections, geometrics) of traffic and bridge/structure engineering projects, using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design software programs.
  • Involvement with WISDOT freeway and roadway projects related to highways that impact CTH's/Milwaukee County facilities, including attending meetings, coordination, review of plans and contract documents, obtaining mitigation agreements, including review of traffic reports and analysis.
  • Investigate and respond to requests and concerns of elected officials, County departments, other municipal agencies, and the public related to highway engineering and safety.
  • Assist in the development of capital improvement plans and budgets for highway engineering design projects in Transportation Services.
  • Other miscellaneous tasks for meeting project timelines, quality assurance/control and budgets as needed.
