About The Position

The Engineering & Operations Assistant supports the daily activities of the Engineering and Operations Department to help ensure safe, reliable delivery of electric service to cooperative members. This position serves as back-up dispatcher and supports other departments and team members with administrative and organizational duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or satisfactory GED equivalent required
  • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Communications, or related field or 2+ years’ experience in electric utility customer service required
  • Must currently be or be willing to become Notary Public
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, be proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Working knowledge or willingness to learn and become proficient with other software as needed, including but not limited to MilSoft OMS, ABS, CIS, MapViewer, Partner, Partner Web, CRC, Yukon, and IVUE
  • Must be able to work in high-stress and fast-moving work environment and manage multiple priorities during outages or system emergencies while keeping safety the first priority
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented with ability to manage projects with varying scopes simultaneously
  • Must have strong intrapersonal skills and the ability to contribute and collaborate in a group setting
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess strong member service skills, including responding to consumer inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Must have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to identify, anticipate and resolve problems
  • Must live within 35 minutes of RushShelby Energy headquarters or being willing to relocate and permanently reside
  • Ability to handle challenging conversations calmly and professionally
  • Must be able to work autonomously with little supervision
  • Willingness to learn cooperative industry standards and practices
  • Must be able and willing to attend meetings, training, conferences to maintain up-to-date knowledge of cooperative services and technologies that may require travel and/or overnight stays
  • Must have ability and willingness to work overtime as needed and/or required
  • Must always represent the Cooperative with professionalism, including but not limited to during all member and community interactions, while driving a company vehicle, while wearing company logoed apparel

Responsibilities

  • Serve as back-up to Engineering & Operations Representative during breaks, time-off, training and other absences, including dispatching responsibilities
  • Answer incoming phones calls and professionally and correctly direct them, as needed
  • Support renewable energy efforts by assisting members with solar inquiries, including but not limited to coordinating inspections, processing required documentation before and after installation, maintaining accurate usage records, updating system information, and preparing annual reporting
  • Collaborate with Staking Engineer to manage all pole attachment activities, including serving as liaison between telecommunications providers and RSE team, maintaining and updating agreements, logging and tracking requests, preparing make-ready quotes and invoices, monitoring payments, invoicing for unauthorized attachments, and maintaining accurate records and tracking to report annual attachment information
  • Manage and maintain engineering files such as easements, permits, equipment records, and system diagrams
  • File permits and easements as needed with the appropriate county
  • Manage post-accident and property damage reporting and serve as liaison with insurance companies
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations Department on miscellaneous receivables
  • Create and close service orders, as needed
  • Assist Engineering with new services, which includes but is not limited to taking initial calls, invoicing, scheduling appointments
  • Assist as needed with obtaining underground locates through Indiana 811
  • Assist Metering Department with meter installs and exchanges
  • Assist in managing and troubleshooting the AMI system
  • Enter data for all meters, transformers, and disconnect collars in IVUE
  • Required to be on the monthly service watch schedule as dispatcher in case of outages and emergencies
  • Assist during major power outages by answering incoming calls, recording power outage information, and dispatching using Outage Management System (OMS)
  • Maintain positive relationships and collaborate with internal departments as well as external vendors, partners, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned
