About The Position

The Manager, Engineering will manage the organization's engineering activities, develop or improve technical products, systems, or processes that meet specified requirements and standards. Manage engineering projects through their entire lifecycle, including cost and requirement analysis, scheduling, and coordinating activities with stakeholders. Monitor schedules and deadlines and prioritize projects to ensure timely delivery and customer satisfaction. Establish engineering methodologies, principles, and tools to support training, process improvements, and best practices and protocols. Lead initiatives with other departments to identify potential products, projects, or opportunities. Remain informed of new technologies and processes and implement changes to improve engineering capabilities. Manage staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs which can include, Engineers, CAD Designers and Mechanical Design Analysts. Ensure that project/department milestones/goals are met and adheres to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
  • or an additional 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree
  • 10 years progressive experience as an individual contributor and managing staff to project timelines supporting automotive component projects/designs.
  • 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Understanding of manufacturing techniques as it relates to materials and tolerances for development of technical data packages.
  • Experience in PTC Creo CAD Software and PTC Windchill PLM/PDM Software
  • Prior leadership experience of teams of comparable size and scope
  • Less than 10% travel expected of the role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) as it relates to material selection and orientation on the print bed a plus.
  • Experience in an ISO9001 or TS16949 environment a plus
  • Familiarity with AIAG tools (FMEA, PPAP, APQP, etc.) a plus
  • Experience with Lean / Six Sigma a plus

Responsibilities

  • Product Development
  • Execute engineering efforts for new private-label product launches and line extensions.
  • Translate customer and brand requirements into technical product specifications.
  • Support supplier selection and technical capability assessments.
  • Oversee reverse engineering and benchmarking of competitor products.
  • Supplier & Global Sourcing Support
  • Provide technical oversight for global suppliers and contract manufacturers.
  • Review and approve drawings, tooling designs, BOMs, and validation plans.
  • Assist with supplier audits and technical reviews.
  • Collaborate with sourcing and quality teams on validation and verification processes
  • Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (SAE, ISO, FMVSS where applicable).
  • Oversee product validation testing (durability, fitment, performance, environmental).
  • Support warranty root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation for regulatory and customer audits.
  • Lifecycle & Continuous Improvement
  • Manage product changes, cost reductions, and engineering change notices (ECNs).
  • Identify value engineering opportunities.
  • Support obsolescence planning and redesign initiatives.
  • Monitor field performance and customer feedback to drive enhancements.
  • Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, designers and other staff (10-15).
  • Establish performance goals and development plans.
  • Partner with Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, and Operations teams.
  • Provide technical support to Sales for key accounts and customer presentations.
  • Report engineering KPIs (launch timing, cost savings, etc.).
  • Budget & Project Management
  • Execute on engineering budget and capital expenditures.
  • Oversee project timelines, risk mitigation, and milestone tracking.
  • Ensure product launches aligned with customer programs.
