Engineering Manager

About The Position

Common Room is the customer intelligence platform that captures every buying signal, giving companies superpowers with AI enrichment and automation to reach the right person with the right context at the right time. Despite an explosion of buyer signals, companies are left struggling with siloed point solution vendors, bloated tech stacks, and unactionable "intent" data. Common Room brings together all the buying signals you care about in one place so you can track the entire customer journey, match signals to real people and accounts, take action and automate. We’ve raised over $50 million from top-tier investors including Greylock, Index, and Madrona to build the world's first customer intelligence platform for modern B2B companies. And we’re backed by 25+ operators from the fastest-growing companies in the world such as Figma, Stripe, Airtable, Slack, Notion, Loom, and more. You + Common Room? You’d be joining a team that revels in asking hard questions, collaborating gladly, and making decisions quickly—a team that values simplicity, passion, trust, each other, and our customers above all. So hello! Please, knock on our door. We'd love to meet you. We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to grow and inspire our engineering organization. This role combines technical leadership with company-building impact. You’ll guide our engineering strategy, scale the team, and ensure we’re delivering systems that are robust, reliable, and delightful for our customers. Your ability to learn quickly (about the product, business, and technology) is your superpower. You’re motivated by growth and learning, but you also bring the experience to help others accelerate theirs. You’re equally comfortable setting technical direction as you are creating the organizational structure, processes, and culture that enable a team to thrive. You’ll be the bridge between engineering, product, design, and other stakeholders- keeping us ahead of the roadmap while balancing execution, scalability, and long-term strategy. And while you won’t hesitate to dive into technical details when needed, you’ll also step back to keep the broader picture in focus.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 2+ years leading teams (including people management and technical leadership).
  • Experience scaling engineering organizations at a fast-growing startup or tech company.
  • Strong judgment on tradeoffs, architecture, and tooling; favoring supported, stable technologies over trends for their own sake.
  • Proven ability to deliver large, complex projects while keeping teams unblocked and motivated.
  • Deep familiarity with backend systems, distributed architecture, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Postgres; Node.js/TypeScript experience a plus).
  • A track record of building diverse, high-performing teams and fostering an inclusive, feedback-rich culture.
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels; comfortable jumping into code reviews one moment and board-level discussions the next.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute engineering strategy: Align technical direction with business goals, balancing velocity with quality and scalability.
  • Build and scale the team: Recruit, retain, and mentor world-class engineers and managers, while fostering career growth and leadership development.
  • Drive execution at scale: Ensure timely delivery of complex, high-impact projects across the stack, with a focus on backend systems and infrastructure.
  • Partner cross-functionally: Work closely with product, design, and business stakeholders to shape the roadmap and deliver on company priorities.
  • Champion engineering excellence: Establish standards for architecture, observability, performance, and operational excellence.
  • Foster culture: Create a psychologically safe environment where teams can innovate, take ownership, and do their best work.
  • Company-building: Contribute to hiring practices, onboarding, organizational design, and other initiatives that support our growth as a startup.

Benefits

  • Competitive base compensation with meaningful equity ownership
  • Health insurance including medical, dental, and vision, HSA and FSA
  • We pay 100% of your employee premium and 50% of your premium for any dependents
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off
  • Paid Company Holidays
  • Work from home policy including a laptop and support for your home office needs
  • Monthly Remote Stipend
  • 401(k) self contribution
  • Paid Family Leave
  • Opportunity to join a diverse, passionate, and fun team at a pivotal time in the company’s lifecycle
