As we help to create a brand new industry that has never meaningfully existed before, we are seeking an Engineering Manager (Space Hardware) to join our Space Systems Department. This role will provide personnel and programmatic leadership alongside a technically focused staff of Directors. The Engineering Manager will report directly to the Vice President and will oversee the management of personnel who design, build, test, and operate cutting-edge satellite technology. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work with both hardware and software teams, as well as product-focused teams and senior staff, to significantly impact the development of new technology and the personal growth of an extremely talented group of engineers. This position is located in our Santa Barbara office to facilitate close collaboration with the Space Hardware team. You will manage personnel and guide programmatic efforts within the Space Hardware team, ensuring that engineers are executing their work with high quality and velocity. You will also be responsible for the professional development and career planning of Space Hardware engineers, collaborating directly with project, product, and technical leads to understand the scope of work. Your responsibilities will include conducting regular one-on-one meetings with your team, managing workload and assignments, ensuring compliance with legal regulations and company policies, and representing your team's needs in technical meetings. You will identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Additionally, you will collaborate with various stakeholders on headcount planning and hiring, utilizing agile practices to support sprint planning and track progress.
