About The Position

Fetch is scaling the systems that power tens of millions of users and hundreds of millions of transactions every month. We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead backend platform teams within Fetch’s Developer Foundations team, responsible for maintaining and evolving the foundational services that power all Fetch functionality. This role sits at the center of Fetch’s backend platform. The Core Services teams you lead own a large, distributed service ecosystem that must remain reliable, scalable, and efficient as the company grows. The work requires strong technical judgment, deep systems thinking, and the ability to operate at scale. As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and grow backend engineers while remaining highly hands-on in technical design, architecture, and critical implementation work. You will partner closely with engineering leaders across the company to enable product teams, improve platform efficiency, and ensure focus on the highest-impact work. This is a full-time role that can be held from one of our US offices or remotely in the United States.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, leading and developing software engineers
  • Strong backend engineering background with hands-on experience in distributed systems
  • Demonstrated ability to remain deeply involved in technical design and architecture
  • Experience operating and evolving large-scale backend services in production
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to evaluate architectural tradeoffs
  • Proven ability to partner cross-functionally and represent teams effectively
  • Empathy for developer experience and a balanced approach to delivery and quality

Nice To Haves

  • Strong programming experience in Go, or demonstrated ability to quickly become productive in Go
  • Experience designing and operating service-oriented or event-driven architectures at scale
  • Experience improving platform efficiency through service ownership models, tooling, or architectural simplification
  • Experience partnering closely with web or client-facing teams that depend on shared backend services

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop backend platform engineers responsible for core services
  • Remain highly hands-on in backend system design, architecture, and critical coding efforts
  • Set and uphold technical standards for scalability, reliability, and operational excellence
  • Partner with engineering teams across Fetch to support shared platform needs
  • Represent the platform teams in technical and organizational discussions
  • Drive prioritization and strategy, including identifying low-impact work to avoid
  • Balance delivery, system health, and developer experience when making tradeoffs
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and empathy
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and team growth aligned with approved headcount
  • Improve development workflows, tooling, and service ownership models as the platform scales
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools to improve development velocity, code quality, and documentation
