About The Position

We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead our Experience Cloud team within the Location Experiences group. This team is responsible for building the cloud services that power some of the most dynamic and engaging surfaces in the Life360 app, including our unified map, mission-critical family coordination, and server-driven content framework. This role is ideal for a technically minded leader with a bias for action who enjoys building and shaping teams, operating with agency, and working across disciplines to turn vision into systems. The ideal candidate has a history of serving as a technical lead, enabling thoughtful architecture decisions, and leading backend teams in close collaboration with product, analytics, and design partners. You’ll work cross-functionally to bring to life Life360’s North Star vision, one that is intelligent, personalized, and deeply engaging for families. By enabling adaptive, coordinated features across the Life360 application, you’ll help deliver magical experiences that make everyday family life better.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of engineering management experience, with 6+ years of hands-on backend development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience as a technical lead for high-impact cross-functional engineering projects.
  • Deep familiarity with modern, highly-scalable backend stacks using technologies such as Java or Go, Kubernetes, AWS, gRPC, DynamoDB, Kafka, and microservice-based architectures.
  • Ability to translate product goals into clean, scalable architectural solutions.
  • Passion for collaboration and cross-functional delivery; thrives in partnerships with Product, Mobile, Analytics, and Design teams.
  • Strong leadership skills in building efficient, self-motivated, remote-first teams that focus on delivering user outcomes and impact.
  • Strong communication skills with an instinct for creating clarity, making smart tradeoffs, and influencing across organizations.
  • Experience with AI-driven development productivity tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience running full mobile and backend stack teams.
  • Familiarity with content delivery systems, content personalization, server-driven UI frameworks, or CMS platforms.
  • Background in AI-powered product development.
  • Expertise in geo-aware, location-based, or mapping applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of backend engineers focused on Life360’s server-driven experience platform and key coordination experiences that underpin everyday family connection, safety, and peace of mind.
  • Own key backend systems that enable dynamic content delivery to mobile clients across key surfaces like map views, contextual alerts, and insights.
  • Drive rapid prototyping, MVP development, and backend experimentation in support of member engagement goals.
  • Collaborate closely across mobile engineering, product, analytics, design, and infrastructure to deliver cohesive, context-aware experiences.
  • Improve backend development efficiency, eliminate process friction, and reduce time-to-value for internal teams.
  • Maintain operational excellence (SLOs, observability, scalability) across a rapidly growing userbase and set of services.
  • Contribute to technical strategy and product roadmapping with a pragmatic, iterative approach that continually builds off past investments.
