About The Position

St. Paul's School seeks a part-time Engineering Lab Technician to supervise student work in the Lindsay Center Engineering Lab during the times the lab is open outside of the class schedule (3:00 PM- 9:30 PM) as students prepare to compete in the USFIRST Robotics competition. The technician will train students in the safe and proper use of the lab's equipment and tools and helps to maintain the lab and the lab equipment, which includes a wood shop and a machine shop. This is a School-Year, part-time position anticipated 18-hours weekly.   • Must have computer knowledge and experience with Word and Excel software packages.
  • Must have knowledge of various types of machine shop (CNC, lathe) and wood shop (router, handsaw, drill press) equipment.
  • Must have the ability to work with a variety of people, including students.
  • Must have the ability to deal with numerous interruptions and requests.
  • Must have the ability to be flexible about task-changing priorities, including the ability to manage multiple student projects simultaneously.
  • Must be willing to learn new skills and take additional training as necessary.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen to people, use their hands to handle or manipulate objects, equipment, and tools.
  • The employee needs a steady hand with good shoulder, arm, and hand strength to perform technician tasks, including regularly lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Operates machine shop and wood shop equipment on a daily basis.
  • Provides information and technical support to students and faculty on a daily basis.
  • Maintains robotics laboratory, machine shop, and wood shop equipment.
  • Consolidates and disposes of laboratory and shop waste.
  • Assists faculty with storage of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists faculty with tracking and maintaining inventory of laboratory and shop supplies.
  • Promotes a safe learning environment by observing shop procedures, inspecting equipment safety, and developing and demonstrating laboratory safety policies.
