About The Position

The Hill Top Energy Center, located in Carmichaels, PA is a combined cycle power generation facility designed to provide electricity to the region. It utilizes a single GE 7HA.02 gas turbine and an Alstom D652 steam turbine in a combined cycle configuration, enabling a maximum power output of 536 megawatts. Opportunity Summary The Engineering Intern assists in the safe and efficient operation of the power plant and the supporting equipment and systems. This position will be expected to support various projects as determined by department managers. Here's a look at the projects planned during this internship period: 25kV Line Voltage Indication – Work with plant engineer to find a suitable method of monitoring the voltage from the 25kV Alternate feed line and getting the value into the Plant Control System. Plant Security Upgrade – Upgrade the plant security system to include more cameras that will allow Operations to monitor areas of the plant perimeter. Sludge Pump Intake Grinder – Work with plant engineer to develop the design work scope, redline drawings, and work with contractors for bidding. Winterization Enclosure - Design a winterization enclosure to protect the flow control valve on the Economizer Inlet (01-FCV-LPS801) Cathodic Protection – Utilize the underground piping drawings to verify all cathodic protection systems are accounted for and develop a site mapping for each location. Build PI Vision Screens – Create screens in PI Vision to monitor various plant systems Access Road Repair – Quote and manage the repair for the Water Intake Access Road. Internship Experiences: Manage project from start to finish Drawing updates Data collection and analysis Develop design concepts Work scope development Vendor interface and selection

Requirements

  • We are accepting applications from current students enrolled in an Engineering program; third year student in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.
  • Educational concentration in power generation systems and equipment, including operational theory and engineering safety is desired.
  • Demonstrated capability to analyze and correct problems that occur
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Project
  • Must possess and maintain a valid drivers' license

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in PI Processbook a plus
  • Some experience in power plant operations and maintenance a plus

Responsibilities
