The Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting with projects and tasks across the State of California, within the assigned Engineering department. The position will provide support of projects, regulatory requirements, and Company goals, and may work on small projects, as well as large projects under the guidance of a project manager within the Engineering Department. New Business Interns – Civil, Construction and Engineering (Multiple Disciplines) Provides support including budgeting, planning, designing, permitting, bidding, and managing construction of capital projects. These projects include wells, tanks, pump stations, pipelines, treatment plants, power distribution, motor control, instrumentation, communications motor controls, emergency standby generators, SCADA and PLC control systems, and radio communications. Projects may be new installations or modifications to existing facilities. Performs water meter service sizing calculations and in accordance with design standards Reviews district operations water facility design drawings Related field work travel, vendor presentations, and assigned classes Provides support for procurement for design and construction projects Provides support property acquisition projects General tasks including administrative tasks, status reporting, attending group meetings, field visits and data gathering and processing Asset Management Interns – Engineering (Multiple Disciplines) Responsible to support a variety of capital projects and infrastructure reliability programs Participates in large water system improvement projects under the guidance of Project Engineers and Supervising Engineers Leads smaller projects, completing the design, bidding, procurement, and construction management of the project Provides support including Asset Condition Monitoring and data analysis on asset data such as pumping equipment, generators, control valves, storage tanks, flow meters, control equipment, and other assets Develops engineering estimates and budgets to support capital improvement planning Performs engineering analyses Utilizes enterprise resource systems to support business activities Presents project findings to senior leadership prior to the end of an assignment Assist in a variety of field activities such as job walks and inspections General tasks including administrative tasks, status reporting, attending group meetings, field visits and data gathering and processing Enterprise Asset Management / Geographic Information System Application Intern– Multiple Disciplines Compiles and reports data for water infrastructure analysis and capital planning. Assists with research and analysis, performs queries, prepares reports, and analyzes spatial data. Develops and updates various maps for exhibits, reports, and meetings at different scales and layouts through the use of GIS/ desktop software (ArcGIS) and standard templates. Works with staff on the maintenance of GIS and EAM data. Reads and interprets construction drawings (asbuilts) to accurately create and edit GIS and EAM data. Engages with field staff to resolve issues with construction drawings (asbuilts) May prepare and deliver presentations and attend various meetings. May assist with planning and coordinating GIS and EAM projects. Performs field data collection using high-accuracy GPS device.
