Role Summary Internship Term: Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between December 2026 and 2028. Rivian's Internship Program requires active student enrollment. Information regarding your expected degree completion date is collected solely to verify eligibility and determine your availability for future full-time opportunities. Note that if your university has specific requirements for internship programs, it is your responsibility to fulfill those requirements. This role focuses on understanding the long-term reliability of drive units already in customer vehicles by analyzing field data and identifying emerging issues and tracking occurrence rate of known failure modes. The intern will examine motor and inverter performance over time and support root-cause investigations and field reliability data tracking and analysis. Their findings will help engineering teams improve durability and reduce failures in future production.

Requirements

  • Must be currently pursuing a bachelors or masters degree at an accredited university.
  • Actively pursuing a degree or one closely related in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering.
  • Solid understanding of core reliability concepts and common electrical failure modes, especially for motors and inverters.
  • Basic knowledge of high-voltage electric vehicle systems.
  • Hands-on basic Python experience, preferably using pandas and matplotlib/plotly.
  • Ability to write and interpret simple SQL queries to pull and merge engineering datasets.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate field data into actionable engineering insights.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze field and service data to identify reliability trends in drive unit electrical components
  • Perform basic failure mode reviews and support ongoing root-cause investigations
  • Use Python and SQL to extract, clean, and visualize data for engineering assessments
  • Prepare summaries, plots, and reports that communicate findings to cross-functional teams
  • Assist in tracking long-term performance metrics and validating fixes implemented via hardware or software releases
