In 2025, 82,427,962 passengers passed through DEN, making DEN 4th busiest airport in the U.S. and the world’s 10th busiest airport. DEN is Colorado’s primary economic engine, generating $47.2 billion in annual economic impact for the state. At DEN, we are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. We celebrate individuality and strive to keep Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility (EDIA) at the center of all that we do. Through the DEN Intern (nicknamed “DENtern”) Program, students gain real world experience in aviation and workforce development while building professional skills. DENterns participate in a cohort-based model that emphasizes networking, collaboration, and professional growth, attending all scheduled professional development sessions, tours, and engaging in impactful projects across the airport. DEN’s Technical Programs and Systems (TPS) Group is actively seeking an Engineering DENtern to contribute to the Design, Engineering & Construction (DEC) division. As part of DEN's Strategic Plan, Vision 100, which envisions reaching 100 million annual passengers, TPS plays a pivotal role in transforming the aviation industry. The TPS group serves as subject matter experts in a variety of engineering and professional disciplines for the airport, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, life safety, commissioning, and fueling engineering. As registered professional engineers, the team helps support Project Managers in DEC on construction projects across the airport, as well as assisting our stakeholder partners in other divisions. Our engineering team helps set and provide guidance to the standards for the airport, ensuring our strategic goals are met in a safe and standardized way. As an Engineering DENtern, you will work on projects such as, but not limited to: Project #1: Support the Systems Group’s weekly tasks. Sharing design review tasks with the engineering team. Leading systems group weekly meetings. Attending and documenting site visits for various projects and construction verification. Project #2: Research code and industry design trends for inclusion in the DEN Design Standard Manual (DSM) update process, which is the standard to which all projects at DEN are held during the design process to ensure consistency across the airport. Provide recommendations for inclusion in the fall change cycle. Provide a technical presentation to the TPS group on one of the major issues or trends facing our airport. Project #3: Support the engineering process and diagram updates through field investigations and design drawings. Document updates to electrical one-line diagrams, mechanical piping models, and other system diagrams utilizing DEN standard Revit templates and families. Develop standard engineering details and schedules for incorporation into our Revit templates to support future projects by internal and external design teams. Project #4: Cross-discipline learning and assistance from other engineering teams. Support Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Life Safety Engineers with Revit standard creation and updates. Project #5: Green Belt Certification Project. Development of a continuous improvement project to improve on a simple process within the department to increase efficiency within the team, in accordance with DEN’s ‘Just Do It’ initiative. Project #5: Aviation Megatrend Research. Collaborate with a team of fellow DENterns to conduct discovery research on a key aviation megatrend. This includes gathering data, interviewing industry experts, and analyzing findings. At the end of the summer, your team will present insights to DEN’s executive leadership to help shape strategic innovation and prepare the airport for the future.
