About The Position

This position performs paraprofessional engineering related work involving the investigation, evaluation, assessment, asset management, planning, writing reports, coordinating work, or inspection of public infrastructure and systems. This position works under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer. Project management responsibility involves infrastructure projects. While meeting all the minimum requirements for the Engineering Associate position, the ideal candidate will also possess the following specialized knowledge, experience, and proficiencies: At least three years of experience working as a Survey Rodman, Instrument Man, Party Chief, or AutoCAD Survey Draftsman Proficiency in preparing survey descriptions and sketches, writing and interpreting survey descriptions, and preparing various types of survey drawings (including Boundary, Topographic, and Right-of-Way) using AutoCAD. Extensive knowledge of the Florida State Plan Coordinate System and the Florida Section Breakdown System.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major in Engineering or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an Engineering-related field; AND
  • Three years of experience in the investigation, evaluation, assessment, planning, design, or inspection of public infrastructure and systems; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a High School diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.
  • Knowledge of fundamental engineering principles and practices for assigned functional area.
  • Knowledge of engineering design criteria, standards, and applicable permit requirements.
  • Knowledge of construction standards, methods, materials, and inspection techniques.
  • Knowledge of field testing, sampling, and investigative techniques, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, regulations, and policies.
  • Knowledge of testing and monitoring devices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards and procedures.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices to the planning, design support, construction, assessment, asset management, and maintenance of multiple municipal projects, or portions of major projects; resolves conflicts and ensures compliance with permits and regulations; prepares and monitors scopes, budgets, and schedules to ensure timely completion of projects
  • Drafts or revises plans and drawings utilizing computer-aided design tools.
  • Researches and conducts environmental and mapping surveys.
  • Performs cost analysis and feasibility studies.
  • Prepares survey reports and legal descriptions.
  • Assists with preparing contract drafts; evaluates contractor proposals and assists with review of proposals for professional engineering services.
  • Interacts with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and internal and external department personnel to ensure efficient flow of communication and service.
  • Attends preconstruction meetings and presents specific aspects of proposed and existing engineering assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
