About The Position

Wells Fargo is seeking an Engineering Associate – Java to support the Home Lending Technology team, part of Consumer Technology (CT). Home Lending Technology is dedicated to developing and maintaining innovative solutions that streamline the home lending process. The team focuses on enhancing user experiences, improving operational efficiency, and reducing risk to deliver a seamless, efficient home loan experience for customers and internal partners. In this role, you will work under the guidance of senior engineers to design, build, test, and support Java‑based backend services, REST APIs, and microservices used across Home Lending servicing platforms. You will strengthen core development skills in Java, Spring Boot, and database technologies, apply analytical thinking to solve technical problems, and gain experience working across both legacy and modern application stacks. You will also use AI‑assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot, practice independent coding, and build confidence writing code that extends beyond class assignments. You will have opportunities to learn event-driven architecture concepts (Kafka/PubSub), contribute to UI enhancements using Angular or React, and participate in cloud-aligned development as applications evolve within Consumer Lending’s technology ecosystem. This role is ideal for entry-level developers with strong curiosity, a willingness to challenge themselves, and a passion for building real production‑grade solutions that support critical Home Lending workflows. You will also participate in the Career Opportunities in Development and Engineering (CODE) Program — a two‑year development program that runs alongside your full-time experience. CODE is designed for recent grads, coding bootcamp alumni and individuals with hands-on technical experience looking to break into tech. No four‑year degree is required. Requirements

  • 6+ months of Technology Engineering and Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ months of hands‑on experience programming in Java, demonstrated through coursework, internships, personal projects, or early full‑time roles.
  • 6+ months of hands‑on experience with Spring Boot, including building or modifying REST APIs shown through class assignments, labs, or project delivery.
  • 6+ months working with databases (SQL or NoSQL), including writing basic queries; exposure to MongoDB is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to code independently, including completing class assignments, side projects, or portfolio work without step‑by-step guidance.
  • Experience building or consuming RESTful APIs, with an understanding of HTTP fundamentals.
  • Experience using AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) or developing small AI prototypes such as chatbots, LLM prompts, or automated scripts.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document features and bug fixes using Java and Spring Boot
  • Build and consume RESTful APIs supporting microservices and transaction workflows
  • Learn and apply engineering standards, secure SDLC practices, and API design best practices
  • Apply database skills (SQL/NoSQL) to write queries, validate data flows, troubleshoot data issues, and support application logic.
  • Use AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to accelerate coding, generate test cases, and explore solution alternatives.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and cross‑functional partners in Home Lending Technology to support delivery goals and solution design.
  • Gain exposure to event‑driven architecture concepts (Kafka, PubSub) and learn how messaging patterns support distributed systems.
  • Contribute to front‑end or UI tasks using Angular or React when opportunities arise, helping develop or update internal user interfaces.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including standups, retros, sprint planning, and code reviews, while incorporating feedback from mentors.
  • Learn cloud‑ready development concepts for Java applications deployed on internal or cloud platforms
  • Contribute to Generative AI features (LLM-enabled workflows such as summarization, extraction, and assistant experiences) under guidance
  • Participate in an on-call rotation approximately once every six weeks to support production systems.
  • Actively engage in the two-year CODE Program, including participation in training, mentorship, networking events, and career development activities.
