- Under close supervision of an associate engineer, performs engineering assignments by assisting with engineering projects. - Under direct guidance, conducts basic engineering studies and computations, equipment performance. May be assisted by technicians, or experienced engineers. - Investigates and analyzes basic problems and develops appropriate solutions. - Develops solutions or improvements, and/or verifies accuracy of ALDR and load forecast data. Ensures accurate and beneficial data is acquired and recorded. - Prepares reports, and project outlines in connection with fundamental engineering assignments. Learns and follows appropriate department and business procedures. - Assists in planning and analysis of engineering projects. - Records, compiles, and reports information for distribution system studies. - Reviews specifications as required for basic projects for which there are precedents. Completes related computations and has knowledge of schematics and diagrams. - Coordinates project reviews and implementation plans between individuals and sections. Ensures timely communications occur, as needed, on project activities. - Maintains knowledge of engineering principles. Studies and attends classes on LCRA procedures, equipment, and systems. Continues to improve his/her analytical and troubleshooting skills. - Gathers engineering information by traveling to various locations as necessary. - In accordance with approved Supply Management processes and procedures, will provide large equipment forecast. - May assist more experienced engineers in the interpretation of basic engineering drawings specifications for field personnel. Communicates any recommended changes to the responsible engineer for the correction. You will be trusted to: This posting is in the Transmission Substation and Asset Planning group. The TSAP group is tasked with load forecast review, transformation and distribution system assessments, reliability analysis, UFLS program administration, capital project development, and compliance-related tasks. The engineer in this position may be tasked with: - Developing distribution system studies for customers - Analysis of distribution system performance - Customer’s load forecast tabulations - Annual load data request for customers and send them to ERCOT - Under frequency load shedding tabulations (UFLS) - Voltage and capacity analysis - Power factor analysis - Phase balance Analysis - Sponsorship of Capital project recommendations Familiarity with the following tools & topics is desirable: - Computer Model Simulation software (e.g. Milsoft WindMil) - Electrical print reading (e.g. relay one-line diagrams, DC schematics, etc) - Power system apparatus (e.g. circuit breakers, circuit switchers, fuses, transformers, etc) - Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel, VBA code, Outlook, etc) - NERC reliability standards - ERCOT market rules
