Temporary Engineering Assistant/Traffic

About The Position

Please note that all positions close at 12:00 AM on the posted closing date. You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date. Employee will be responsible for locating NCDOT underground traffic signal utilities throughout Division 4 counties (Halifax, Edgecombe, Wilson, Nash, Wayne, and Johnston) but primarily in Johnston County. The Employee may assist other technicians in the installation, testing, and inspection of new Traffic Control Systems and existing systems that are upgraded. Duties performed include: locating underground utilities, tracking locate ticket requests using the computer programs Center Logix and Locator Logix, and other tasks assisting other technicians. Work will be performed without constant supervision and will be evaluated by supervisor for efficient use of time and proper operation of equipment used in performing signal utility locates. Skills required include: general knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the safe/efficient use of tools, materials and test equipment used in the electrical/electronic trades and a working knowledge of basic computer applications such as MS Word and Excel. The successful applicant will be exposed to all weather conditions and high volumes of moving traffic. Safety toe shoes are required. The Engineering Assistant is required to maintain proper records of all signal work accomplished and to keep an accurate record of time worked and all materials used via computer.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the safe/efficient use of tools, materials and test equipment used in the electrical/electronic trades
  • Working knowledge of basic computer applications such as MS Word and Excel
  • Safety toe shoes are required.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
