About The Position

The Engineer plays a key role in the planning, designing and delivering water infrastructure projects, including pipelines, system upgrades, and treatment facility improvements. This position performs engineering analyses, prepares technical documents, supports construction activities, and works closely with consultants, developers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure projects meet Greenville Water's standards for reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance. The Engineer also contributes to capital planning, project prioritization, and financial tracking, helping ensure responsible stewardship of system resources. Successful candidates bring strong technical skills, clear communication, and a commitment to high-quality service for the community. Depending on experience, the Engineer may work under the supervision, operate independently, or lead complex engineering efforts.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school is required
  • Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with engineers, architects, developers, contractors, and internal staff to plan and support water infrastructure projects across new development, replacements, and system improvements.
  • Interpret and apply Greenville Water standards, rules, and regulations; review site plans and evaluate technical requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analyses for pipeline and facility work, including water main layout, hydraulics/system modeling, structural and pipeline design, thrust restraint, and surge/gradient analysis.
  • Plan and prioritize projects and programs based on capacity, condition, risk, level of service needs, and regulatory drivers; recommend sequencing and bundling to optimize outcomes.
  • Coordinate treatment plant process designs and support facility upgrades (e.g., process selection/sizing, equipment coordination) while ensuring regulatory compliance and constructability with operating plants.
  • Prepare engineering drawing, specifications, reports, bid documents, plats, and other project-related documentation using AutoCAD and other available software.
  • Provide construction-phase support via field inspections, interpretation of plans/specs, verification of installed quantities and evaluation of field data; resolve issues with contractors in real time.
  • Track and report project financials (budgets, cost projections, pay applications) and communicate status to supervisors and stakeholders; engage in ongoing training and certification to maintain current technical and regulatory knowledge.
