The Engineer (Water Reuse) leads critical testing, research, and water quality initiatives that directly shape the future of potable water reuse. This advanced technical role drives process evaluations and optimization of advanced treatment technologies to meet stringent recycled and drinking water quality standards. The Engineer is an experienced technical leader who coordinates multidisciplinary teams, supports the start-up and integration of new treatment systems, and leads the analysis, interpretation, and documentation of complex data to develop operational strategies and design criteria essential to the successful delivery of a future full-scale Advanced Water Treatment (AWT) facility. This position will report out of Headquarters adjacent to Union Station in Los Angeles but will be stationed at the demonstration plant in Carson.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and six years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Associate Engineer level; OR Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Associate Engineer level.
  • Degree in a related field is defined as: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Chemical Engineering or other related Engineering degree.
  • Relevant Experience is defined as: Working with drinking water, recycled water/water reuse, and/or wastewater treatment processes, OR experience in water/wastewater/recycled water/water reuse regulatory compliance.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
  • License in good standing as a California Professional Engineer (required at time of application)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead at the demonstration plant, designing and executing hands-on testing and optimization studies and translating complex data into technical conclusions.
  • Lead the authorship, review, and interpretation of technical reports and peer-reviewed papers; prepare and deliver technical presentations; and contribute to advancing knowledge in potable reuse.
  • Develop, review, and approve process design criteria, technical memoranda, plans, and specifications to ensure regulatory compliance and high-performance operations.
  • Oversee instrumentation, laboratory analytical work, equipment and instrument maintenance, data quality, and implementation of quality assurance to ensure accurate, reliable, and reproducible results.
  • Support safe and reliable plant operations by developing procedures, manuals, and guidelines, and participating in a scheduled standby rotation as needed.
  • Lead SCADA integration efforts including system configuration, updates, and troubleshooting, to support advanced process control and data collection.
  • Directs vendors, consultants, contractors, and contracts, providing clear engineering oversight and maintaining alignment with project objectives.
