About The Position

This role is responsible for supporting the design and implementation of the Chemistry Program for the Power Plants. The Engineer will assist in the development of primary and secondary chemistry programs, implement chemical control strategies, monitor chemistry parameters, follow sampling requirements, apply action level responses for out of spec parameters, support corrosion mechanism mitigation efforts, implement laboratory Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures, and operate chemical addition systems.

Requirements

  • Typically, fifteen years of experience in an functional engineering role.
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, material science, material science engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related science degree
  • A master’s degree in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of two years of experience.
  • A Ph.D. in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of three years of experience.
  • Knowledge of nuclear regulations, regulatory review processes, nuclear codes and standards
  • Familiarity with industrial equipment design, procurement, installation, and operation
  • Previous experience at X-energy exceeding performance standards may be in lieu of years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities, listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document, without close supervision and extensive latitude for independent judgment.
  • Teach and mentor more junior team members.
  • Stay abreast of industry and academic trends, breakthroughs, and best practices.
  • Support the design and licensing of the power plant
  • Collaborate with system engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders on systems requiring chemistry controls
  • Assist in the design of chemical processing systems
  • Participate in research for new and improved chemical treatment processes
  • Implement specifications for chemistry process equipment and interact with equipment suppliers
  • Support subcontractors and suppliers during the installation of chemical equipment
  • Follow and help refine standard operating procedures for chemical and analytical systems
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems associated with chemical processes
  • Monitor chemical process controls and report variances
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures for working with hazardous chemicals, processes, or equipment
  • Comply with environmental and safety regulations in all chemistry activities
  • Execute policies and procedures for processing solid, liquid, and gaseous materials
  • Provide technical input for waste permitting documentation
  • Assist with laboratory and equipment layout planning
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment, chemical inputs, outputs, and waste streams
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager
